ITOCHU: Domestic sales of onshore cultured salmon: Pure Salmon Group

July 31, 2019

ITOCHU Corporation:

We have agreed to sell Atlantic Salmon in Japan with Pure Salmon Group, a Japanese corporation, Soul of Japan.

Atlantic salmon will be produced in a new closed circulation land farm in Japan.

Atlantic salmon:

Because it needs to be kept at a low water temperature, it is currently cultivated in the seas of Norway and Chile and imported into Japan.

It is possible to provide products with good freshness by culturing in Japan (water temperature control by aquaculture on land).

Pure Salmon Group:

We have a closed-circulation land farm in Poland.

In 2018, we succeeded in breeding Atlantic salmon of a size that can be sold as a product.

Polish farms use artificial seawater instead of seawater to reduce the risk of disease entry from seawater,

Using advanced filtration technology, the breeding water is recycled and the environmental load is reduced.

Japan plans to produce 10,000 tons a year using next-generation technology.

Construction of a farm in Mie Prefecture will begin in 2020, with shipping scheduled for 2023.
