China: All 31 provinces, Africa outbreak of swine fever-Chinese agricultural and rural areas

The importation of meat products to Japan becomes stricter:

China-Agricultural and rural areas:

On April 19th, China’s agricultural and rural areas announced that outbreaks of African swine fever have been confirmed in Hainan.

With this, outbreaks were confirmed in all 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and directly-controlled cities in mainland China (“New Kyopo” April 20th).

Japan Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries:

African swine fever is a deadly infectious disease that infects pigs and wild boars.

There is no effective vaccine or treatment and it has been designated as a “livestock infectious disease”.

It is occurring in sub-Saharan Africa and in Russia, Georgia, etc.

August 2018: The first outbreak confirmation in Liaoning Province
January 2019: Mongolia,
February 2019: Vietnam,
March 2019: Cambodia
Outbreak was confirmed.

Measures to strengthen the water border from April 22:

To date, no outbreak of African swine fever has been confirmed in Japan.

On April 2nd, a live virus from African swine fever was confirmed in a sausage brought in by a passenger from China.

From April 22nd, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced that it will tighten its response to “illegal import of meat products from abroad into Japan”.
