USHIO INC.: Collaboration with Toshiba Lighting & Technology: Care222TM light source module

to increase the use of ultraviolet rays that suppress viruses!

Ushio Electric

August 26, announced that it will collaborate with Toshiba Lighting & Technology on the development of UV sterilization and virus suppression equipment.

Ultraviolet (UV) light having a wavelength of 222 nanometers (nano is one billionth) is used.

Has a sterilizing and virus inactivating effect and is gentle to the human body.

Application fields:

Use ultraviolet rays (UV) to prevent new coronavirus infectious diseases in cars and railways.

Cooperate in the development of general lighting equipment. It aims to launch a product that can be installed on the ceiling in January 2021.

Ushio Electric and Toshiba Lighting & Technology: Joint development of UV sterilization/virus inactivation device

-Business alliance with equipment for in-vehicle/railroad vehicles and general lighting-

Usio Electric and Toshiba Lighting & Technology:

We will jointly develop an ultraviolet sterilization/virus suppression device equipped with “Care222TM light source module”.

We have agreed to form a business alliance with regard to the development of equipment and general lighting equipment to be installed in automobiles and railway vehicles.

Care222TM:

A new UV light source that is safe for human skin and eyes and that retains the virus’s original virus inactivating and sterilizing ability.

Conventionally, ultraviolet rays with a wavelength of 254 nm have been used for virus inactivation and sterilization by ultraviolet rays, but there is a high risk of skin damage and the like, and direct irradiation to the human body has been avoided.

This time, “Care222TM” irradiates only 200-230nm ultraviolet rays, which is safe for the human body, by combining a special optical filter with our own excimer lamp*.

It is possible to inactivate and sterilize viruses by directly irradiating them with viruses and bacteria.
