US FCC: Five Chinese companies’security threat’: Huawei ZTE banned altogether

Federal Communications Commission (FCC):

The FCC regulates and supervises the American broadcast and communications business.

On March 12, it released a “list” of devices and services that threaten US national security.

5 Chinese companies:

Named on the list

Huawei, a communication device
ZTE, ZTE,
Radio radio communication (Hi-Tera),
Surveillance camera Hikvision,
Dahua Technology (Dahua),
Five companies and their subsidiaries and affiliates.

Restrictions on 5 companies:

The equipment of the five companies installed in the United States will be removed and the service will be suspended.

The restrictions on the five companies are somewhat different for each company.

Huawei and ZTE:

The two toughest are Huawei and ZTE.

“Communication services and video surveillance services using equipment manufactured and provided by both companies” are all restricted.

Limitations to the remaining 3 companies:

On the other hand, the restrictions on the remaining three companies are limited to “for the purpose of monitoring public security, government facility security, and critical infrastructure facility security.”

US product usage in China:

In the United States, Chinese-made telecommunications equipment has been widely used for regional telecommunications services in sparsely populated rural areas.

According to the FCC:

“Businesses that provide regional communication services using the Universal Service Fund” must remove the equipment and services of the five listed companies.

The FCC has also launched an auxiliary program needed to replace the target equipment and services.

As of December 2020, the total amount of subsidies is estimated to be 1.6 billion dollars (174.3 billion yen).
