2021 Robot development in the UK for retrieval.

On July 2, the development status of the remote control device “robot arm” in the UK was revealed.

It is used for “retrieving the nuclear fuel (debris) that has melted down at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 2”.

The first debris retrieval at the first nuclear power plant is planned to start in 2021.

Robot arm:

Jointly developed by the International Decommissioning Research and Development Organization (IRID) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries with British nuclear companies.

About 22 meters in length,
Width about 25 cm,
At a height of about 40 cm,
It is made of high strength stainless steel and weighs about 4.6 tons.

Work remotely by inserting it inside the containment vessel, which has an extremely high radiation dose.
