Spiber: Plant construction

We will enhance production and research and development facilities for practical use of “structural protein” materials.

Spiber has advanced into Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate (Note 1) in Rayong Province, eastern Thailand.

We will construct a mass production plant that will be responsible for the fermentation and purification process of “structural proteins”.

Mitsubishi UFJ, etc .: Loans and leases

As part of raising funds, we entered into a syndicated loan agreement with Mitsubishi UFJ Bank for a ¥ 5 billion term loan agreement.

Yamagata Bank, Shounai Bank and Tsuruoka Shinkin Bank’s three regional financial institutions also participated.

Our proprietary development: “structural proteins”

It does not use petroleum as its main raw material like chemical fibers such as nylon and polyester.

All are produced by fermentation process based on plant resources.

Our developed technology:

Fiber or film,

Such as resin

Processing to a wide variety of materials is also possible.

(Note 1)

(Rayong) Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate

Thai: นิคมอุตสาหกรรม อีส เทิ ร์ น ซี บอร์ด (ระยอง) English: Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate

(Rayong) It is an industrial park developed by WHA INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT Co., Ltd. One of the representative industrial parks where the Thai government brings together domestic and foreign advanced technology companies.

International port Laem Chabang Port is near, and overseas maker factory is located. Opened in 1996.

Spiber Corporation:

Established in September 2007
Yamagata Prefecture Tsuruoka City Mokugishi Temple Water Top 234-1
Kazuhide Sekiyama
22,446.6 million yen (including capital surplus)
224 people (as of April 23, 2019)

Next Generation Protein:

Developing unique “structural protein” material “QMONOS®” utilizing research results of spider silk artificial synthesis.

Designing materials with a wide variety of characteristics and forms by Spiber’s proprietary technology, without relying on petroleum as the main raw material like chemical fibers.

What is a protein:

The protein is a biopolymer in which 20 types of amino acids are linearly linked in an arbitrary length and arrangement.

Proteins include enzymes and antibodies: those that play a physiological role,
Cytoskeleton and spider silk: play a structural role,
The latter are generally called “structural proteins”.

“Keratin”: Hair, nails, etc.
“Collagen”: Composes bone, skin etc
Are also one of the structural proteins.

Thai plant:

Our first overseas base.
Approximately 100 times the size of our headquarters and Yamagata Fermentation Pilot Plant.
The world’s largest structural protein fermentation production plant (as of April 23, 2019).
Production planning:

This plant is a base for production technology development related to fermentation and purification processes.
Thailand is rich in biomass resources to be fermented.
In addition, the apparel and automotive industry of users accumulated.
Construction will begin in the summer of 2019, and commercial production will begin in 2021.

The shipped protein is processed into fibers etc. at the main in-house spinning facility in Tsuruoka City.

Plans to be used for various applications such as apparel products and auto parts.
