For 211 Japanese companies located in Russia
We conducted an impact investigation by sanctions against Russia in the west and countermeasures by the Russian government.
Details of the survey results:
96 out of 97 respondents (99%)
Answered that “it already has an adverse effect / an adverse effect is expected”.
Specific impact: (multiple answers)
Logistics disruption / stagnation (80%),
Ruble exchange rate decline (73%),
Difficulty in financial settlement (54%),
Reasons for adverse effects:
“Impact of sanctions against Russia and countermeasures against Russia”
“Decrease in evaluation due to continuation of business with Russia”
Current status of Russian business:
About the change in sales for one month starting from February 24
64% of all companies have “decreased sales”
“Sales are zero” was 9%.
Factors behind zero sales:
“Discontinuation of logistics for Russia” and “stricter security examination at the time of export”
Evacuation of expatriates from Russia:
81% of the companies evacuated some of the expatriates (67% evacuated all).

81% компаній евакуювали частину експатріантів (67% евакуювали всіх).

40% of Japanese firms have suspended operations in Russia
A survey has found
more than 40 percent of Japanese firms in Russia have shut down their operations in the country since the invasion of Ukraine.The Japan External Trade Organization conducted the survey from March 24th. Ninety-seven companies responded.
All but one firm said international sanctions are having a negative impact on their business.
Forty-three percent said
they have suspended all or part of their operations in Russia.Forty-four percent expected
a business reduction or withdrawal from the market over the next six to 12 months.JETRO analyst Shimoyashiro Manabu
says personal purchasing power in Russia has declined as its currency, the ruble, has weakened.He also says it will take some time before Japan’s businesses have a positive view of the Russian market.
