The international collaborative research team analyzed the data acquired by the radio radar and month radar sounder mounted on the Japanese lunar orbiting satellite “KAGUYA” and found that there are several underground in the lunar volcanic area, several tens of meters to several hundred meters deep, We confirmed the presence of the cavity.
One of the confirmed underground cavities is a huge one extending by several tens of kilometers in the west, with the vertical hole discovered by “Kaguya” as the eastern end. This achievement that ensured the existence of the underground cavern is important both for scientific and future lunar exploration.
