Japan: High-yielding four seasons Strawberries: “Summer drops”

-10 ares over 3 tons, 2.4 times more than existing varieties-

Agricultural Research Organization:

On July 28, it announced that it had cultivated the four-season strawberry “Natsu no Shizuku”.

The fruits are hard and easy to transport and last for a long time.
Suitable for business such as cakes.
From June to November in the summer and autumn, we can expect more than 10 ares and 3 tons, which is 1.4 to 2.4 times the existing varieties.

We expect that it will lead to the replacement of imported products.

Joint research in 5 prefectures in Tohoku:

Raised through joint research with Aomori, Akita, Iwate, Miyagi, and Yamagata’s five Tohoku prefectures.

Seedlings will be sold after September.

Traditionally harvested from winter to spring:

Most strawberries produced in Japan are seasonal varieties.

Flower buds are attached under low temperature and short day conditions, and flowering and fruiting occur from winter to spring.

New varieties harvested all year round:

On the other hand, four-season varieties are characterized by flowering and fruiting almost throughout the year.

In cold regions such as Hokkaido and Tohoku
It is produced in the summer and autumn using new varieties.

New variety “Natsu no Shizuku”:

It is characterized by harder fruits than the existing four-season varieties.

Fruit hardness is a particularly important factor for summer and autumn strawberries.

The harder it is, the harder it will lose its shape even when transported, and the easier it will last for a long time.
