China: 820,000 5G base stations: CAICT White Paper

“World Telecommunication Day”:

An event was held on May 17 in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China, in line with “World Information Society and Telecommunications Day.”

Deputy Director of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China:

We introduced the current status of the 5th generation mobile communication system (5G) in China.

5G base station in China:

As of the end of March 2021, China’s 5G base stations exceeded 891,000.

It accounts for more than 70% of the world.

It is the largest stand-alone network (Note 1) in the world.

Number of terminals connected to 5G:

The number of terminals connected to 5G exceeded 280,000, accounting for more than 80% of the world.

Number of 5G standard essential patents:

Chinese companies are also leading the world in the number of 5G standard essential patents (Note 2) approved by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).

However, 5G applications are developing:

China Information China Information and Communication Research Institute CAICT released a white paper in December 2020,

December 2020 CAICT White Paper:

It points out the following problems.

5G has not covered the whole country,
The technology that supports 5G is immature,
5G industry is in the early stages of development,
Fusion with other industries has not been realized,

It said that the next few years would be an important period of development.
