On January 2, the Korean Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources announced that a Korean chemical manufacturer had established a manufacturing technology that would enable high-purity mass production.
Government of Japan: Restriction on export of “hydrogen fluoride”
The Japanese government has tightened regulations on hydrogen fluoride exports since July last year.
The Korean semiconductor industry uses hydrogen fluoride for cleaning semiconductors and relied on imports from Japan before regulations were tightened.
After the tightening of regulations, the export value of hydrogen fluoride from Japan to South Korea has dropped sharply.
Korean chemical manufacturer: “Soul Brain”
It is not yet clear whether Soul Brain’s manufacturing technology can provide a stable supply with no problem in terms of profitability.
According to the Korea Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources, a chemical maker, Soul Brain, has stated that it has been able to reduce the amount of hydrogen fluoride impurities to ‘1 of a trillion’.
