Korea Trade Association:
On July 1, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced “a review of the operation of export control for the Republic of Korea”.
On July 2, the Korea Trade Association announced “Statistics on export control of semiconductor materials in Japan”.
For three items (resist, hydrogen fluoride, fluorinated polyimide) that require export review from July 4, the association is expected to take about 90 days from application for individual export permit to review.
In addition, it warns that there is a possibility that the export application may be disapproved.
Import from Japan: 1-May results (see Table 1)
Resist: Japan’s import dependency is 91.9%
Hydrogen fluoride: Japan’s import dependency is 43.9%
Fluorinated polyimide: Japan’s import dependency is 93.7%
Import from Japan: vs. actual results in 2010 (see chart)
Hydrogen fluoride: Japan’s import dependency decreased from 72.2% (2010) to 43.9% (Jan-May)
Resist: 95.5% (2010) to 91.9% (Jan-May) still high
Fluorinated polyimides: 97.7% (2010) to 93.7% (Jan-May) still high
Export dependency to Korea: 1-April standards (see Table 2)
Japan’s resist: exports to Korea, 11.6%
Hydrogen fluoride in Japan: Export to Korea, 85.9%
Japan’s fluorinated polyimides: exports to Korea, 22.5%
