From April 2019 to May 2020,

Bilge water containing oil was discharged from a ship traveling on the open sea.

I made misrepresentations multiple times in the oil record book.

Florida Federal Court:

A federal court in Florida fined $1.5 million for a management company.

He also received four years of probation, subject to the implementation of a comprehensive environmental compliance plan.

Strengthening of ship management system:

We take this judgment seriously and will not file any complaints against it.

To prevent such a situation from occurring again, we will endeavor to fulfill the comprehensive environmental compliance plan and strengthen the ship management system.

Japanese Shipping Company Fined $1.5 Million for Concealing Illegal Discharges of Oily Water

Misuga Kaiun Co. Ltd. (MISUGA),

a Japanese-based company engaged in international shipping,

was sentenced yesterday in federal court before U.S. District Court Judge Paul G. Byron in Orlando, Florida.

The company pleaded guilty to violating

the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships for failing to accurately maintain an oil record book that covered up discharges of oily water from the Motor Vessel (M/V) Diamond Queen.

MISUGA was sentenced to pay

a fine of $1.5 million, placed on probation for a period of four years, and ordered to implement a comprehensive Environmental Compliance Plan as a special condition of probation.
