NIMS: High electrode characteristics with silicon nanoparticles: High capacity of all solid LiB

National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS):

Silicon nanoparticle electrode bodies were made by spray coating using commercially available silicon nanoparticles.

As a result, it was found that “high output characteristics and cycle characteristics are exhibited in all solid state batteries”.

This discovery:

It is not a vapor-deposited silicon film produced by the vapor phase method (expensive and difficult to increase in area).
Made by spray coating method (cheap and easy to enlarge).
It is epoch-making that the silicon nanoparticle electrode body has been confirmed to have high electrode characteristics.
It is expected for safe and highly reliable “high capacity of all-solid lithium secondary battery”.

NIMS: Future development

We will increase the filling amount of the “silicon nanoparticle electrode body that will be reborn into a continuous film on the spot” that we have developed this time, and will proceed with development to increase the capacity of all-solid-state batteries for EVs.
Part of research was supported by NEDO: Lib Application / Practical Application Development Project (P12003).
The results of this research were published online on September 24, 2019 in ACS Applied Energy Materials.
