Japan’s Auto Output Up 5 Pct in April
Tokyo, May 30 (Jiji Press)–
Combined automobile output in Japan by eight major domestic makers in April
rose 5.0 pct from a year earlier to 774,008 units, following a drop in the previous month, data from the companies showed Thursday.
Toyota Motor Corp. <7203>,
Honda Motor Co. <7267>
and three other automakers
saw higher production, reflecting positive effects from new model launches.
Nissan Motor Co.’s <7201> production
tumbled 26.8 pct to 56,715 units, due chiefly to a decline in demand for the Note mainstay compact.
Toyota’s output
soared 16.3 pct to 294,134 units, thanks to the production start of new Corolla sedans and wagons for the North American market in January.
Honda’s production
grew 15.8 pct to 78,178 units, led mainly by the firm output of the N-Box minivehicle.
