Discovery of phantom particles “Mayorana particles” – expected to realize topological quantum computers
A joint research group of Kyoto University, Tokyo Institute of Technology and others collaborated with Ruthenium Chloride (α-RuCl 3), and discovered “A magnetic insulator with a honeycomb structure takes a universal value defined by quantum mechanics due to thermal Hall effect “.
Finally succeeded in demonstrating “Mayorana particles”.
Mayorana particles have a mysterious nature that they themselves are identical to their antiparticles.
From the theoretical prophecies it is “phantom particles” that have not been validated for more than 80 years.
In this study, definitive proof that “Mayorana particles” existed was obtained.
Moreover, it became clear that the quantization phenomenon by “Mayorana particle” is realized at high temperature.
By developing the control method of “Mayorana particles”, it can be expected to be applied to topological quantum computers that can operate even at high temperatures.
This result was published online on July 12, 2018 in UK science magazine “Nature”.
