Shimadzu: development of COVID-19 gene detection reagent kit: No RNA extraction required from sample

Shimadzu Corporation: COVID-19

Shimadzu has begun development of a new coronavirus gene detection reagent kit.

This kit eliminates the process of extracting RNA from samples, contributing to labor savings and speedy testing.

We aim to quickly establish a supply system for tens of thousands of inspections per month.

Conventional gene detection:

For the detection of new coronavirus by the current gene amplification method (PCR method), a process of extracting and purifying RNA from samples such as nasopharyngeal swabs is indispensable.

RNA purification, which requires cumbersome manual work, takes about 30 minutes, which hinders rapid testing.

Our gene detection:

The new coronavirus gene detection reagent kit we are developing does not require RNA purification.

Just mix the sample and the pretreatment solution, add the reaction reagent for RT-PCR * 1, and react to determine the presence or absence of the virus.

The “New Coronavirus Gene Detection Reagent Kit” was developed based on our original Ampdirect technology.

Follow the instructions in the National Institute of Infectious Diseases manual * 2.

Our own: Ampdirect technology

Suppresses the action of PCR inhibitors such as proteins,
Without extracting and purifying DNA and RNA
Biological samples can be added directly to the PCR reaction solution

Development example: Ampdirect technology

We have developed Ampdirect technology for screening carriers (stool tests) for those engaged in the food field. ,

Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli
Salmonella spp.,
Shigella,
Norovirus

We have a track record of developing and selling detection reagents.
