China: Successive EV ignition accidents / list: 7 incidents in 2019 alone

Seven fire accidents have already been reported in 2019 alone (see table).

August 12: Yunshin New Energy Motor: “π3”

On August 12, China’s Yunjin New Energy Vehicle (Headquarters: Fujian Province) announced that a fire accident occurred in its electric sports multipurpose vehicle (SUV) “π3” in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

There are no injuries, and the cause is currently under investigation. Since August 10th, videos of π3 parked on the street have been on the Internet.

Yunjin New Energy Vehicle: Established in 2015 with state-owned automakers Fujian Automobile Industry Group and Fujian Haiyuan Machinery investing 900 million yuan (about 13.5 billion yen, 1 yuan = about 15 yen).

August 13: Great Wall Motor: “Europe R1”

On August 13th, Great Wall Motor (Head office: Hebei Province) EV “Europe R1” was uploaded on the Internet.

Great Wall Motor: Recognized that the fired vehicle was Europe R1 and began investigating the cause (“Shinkyo News” August 13).

Europe R1: Sales started in December 2018, with sales of 19,758 units from January to July.

Great Wall Motor: Established in 1984. Overseas, it has its own plant in Russia and a research and development base in Japan.

In 2018, the company’s overall vehicle sales exceeded 1 million, and the SUV “Yufu” series maintained the top sales volume in the Chinese SUV market for the ninth consecutive year.

June: Shanghai Wulai Motor: NIO

In addition, in June, Shanghai Wulai Motor (NIO) announced a recall due to a fire accident (see article on July 10, 2019)
