Shanghai Wulai Automobile (NIO): China’s NEV Venture
On June 27, announced a recall of the SUV EV “ES8”.
It has suffered from a firing accident of ES8 that occurred continuously in China.
It covers 4,803 units produced from April 2nd to October 19th, 2018.
Recall Details:
The recall cost is about 500 million yuan (about 8 billion yen, 1 yuan = about 16 yen) (“Guangzhou Daily” July 4th).
Shanghai Wulai Automobile announced that the battery module is the cause.

Cause of ignition: Shanghai Wulai Automobile
The battery module wiring of the “NEV-P50 type” installed in the battery pack of the ES8 is inappropriate.
“The pressure from the battery cover has caused the insulator to break and a short has occurred.”
Cause of ignition: ‘Ningde period technology’
On the other hand, the announcement of the supplier ‘Ningde period technology’ is different from the announcement of Shanghai Wulai Automobile.
The NEV-P50 type battery modules are supplied by China’s’Ningde period technology’ (Fujian Province) (Shanghai Wulai Automobile ： in charge of battery pack design)
In addition, ‘Ningde period technology’ also issued a statement about the ignition accident.
The cause is expressed as “the structure of the battery module and the battery pack interfered”.
‘Ningde period technology’ does not point out the defect of the battery module wiring.
