China: French car sales slump: Changan Citroën canceled joint venture

China auto sales: Decrease in 1H

China’s vehicle sales in January-September decreased 10.3% year-on-year.

French auto sales have been significantly sluggish (see article on October 24, 2019).

Changan Automobile: (Joint venture with PSA)

On November 1, there was a report that “Changan Citroën (joint venture with PSA) has a 50% stake and is planning to dissolve the joint venture” (“Shinkyo News” November) 1 day)

Renault:

The target for sales in China in 5202 is 550,000.

About 220,000 units were sold in 2018.

But most of that comes from the Brilliance Surno (Renault joint venture) brand.

Renault group sales in China were down 24% year-on-year in the first half of 2019,

Sales volume by Renault Dongfeng also declined 73% from January to August 2019

PSA:

More than 730,000 units were sold in China in 2014.
Decrease to about 250,000 units in 2018
Decreased to 64,000 units in the first half of 2019
It is greatly depressed.

PSA is preparing for “sale of joint venture factory with Chinese manufacturer and temporary dismissal of employees”

Joint venture plant with Dongfeng Motor: Occupancy rate is 22%,
Joint plant with Changan Automobile: Occupancy rate is less than 1%,

French car sales slump:

In China, there are many opinions that French cars are not recognized as luxury brands.

“Best Global Brand”:

In the top 100 in 2019, many French fashion brands are ranked.

However, there is no automobile brand (see Tables 1 and 2).
