Germany (KBA): New passenger car registrations in 2019: the highest since 2009

Federal Motor Vehicle Authority (KBA):

On January 6, 2019, the number of registered new passenger cars in Germany was announced to be 3,607,258 units, up 5.0% from the previous year.

This is the highest level since 2009 (about 3.8 million units).

German Automobile Industry Association (VDA):

On January 6, 2019 passenger car exports fell 13% to 3,485,500 units,

Domestic production was also announced at 4,661,800 units, a 9% decrease.

By major brand: New registrations: (See Table 1)

Volkswagen (VW): 667,518 units, up 3.7% year-on-year
Mercedes-Benz: 339,185 units, up 6.3% year-on-year
Ford: 279,719 units, up 10.9% year-on-year
BMW: 279,243 units, up 5.4% year on year, ranking third.

Japan manufacturers:

Toyota: 88,085 units (including Lexus brand), up 1.6% year-on-year
Mazda: 71,630 units, up 6.3% year-on-year
Mitsubishi: 52,148 units, up 2.6% year on year
Suzuki: 4,616 units, up 8.2% year-on-year
Nissan: 39,500 units, down 21.6% year-on-year
Honda: 15,676 units, down 16.2% year-on-year.

Korean manufacturers:

Hyundai: 129,508 units, up 12.7% year-on-year,

Kia: 69,608 units, up 5.8% year-on-year.

Looking at the number of new registrations by fuel,

Gasoline-powered vehicles fell 0.3% from the previous year to 2,136,891 units, with a market share of 59.2%.

It has started to shrink from the previous expansion trend (see Table 2).
