A joint research agreement was signed with the aim of improving weather observation and prediction accuracy, ensuring driver safety and reducing damage.
We will use “Weather News: Weather Information Data” and “Toyota: Vehicle Data Obtained from Connected Cars”.
Start of demonstration experiment: 3 cities
A “demonstration experiment on real-time detection of road flooding” was started in October in three prefectures in Tokyo, Osaka and Aichi.
The two companies have already developed an AI algorithm for flood detection that learned vehicle data and weather data this summer.
Case study: Guerrilla heavy rain
Case studies were conducted for guerrilla heavy rain that occurred in Tokyo last summer.
On roads where vehicles pass, we succeeded in measuring “flooding”, “getting stuck”, and flooding points.
During the demonstration experiment, a temporary site will be opened if a heavy rain with flooding is expected in the target area.
The measured inundation location is mapped and released in real time.
