National Federation of Milk Producers (NMPF),
Welch and others,
Japan’s tariffs on TPP 11 Member States were lowered and showed a sense of crisis that relative exports to the US would be disadvantageous (see the December 12, 2018 article).
Through these bilateral agreements with Japan, these organizations seek to improve the competitive conditions of US exports.
On December 14, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a report on changes in TPP 11 on Japanese beef market.
With the entry into force of TPP 11,
(1) Japan’s tariffs on imported beef from TPP 11 member countries (from Australia, Canada, New Zealand) are cut down Note:
(2) Beef safeguard of the agreement applies to TPP 11 member countries
Meanwhile, emergency measures for countries that have not signed a trade agreement will continue to be applied to the United States.
Suggesting that exports to the US are in a disadvantageous position.
(Note) Between Australia and Japan, the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) came into effect in January 2015, and tariffs on beef exports of the country have already been lowered gradually.
