Teijin Limited:
Carbon fiber composite material (CFRP) using carbon fiber “Tenax” has been adopted for the cable of the Stuttgart/Stattbahn bridge in Germany.
Stuttgart/Stattbahn Bridge:
The Stadtbahn Bridge is an arch bridge that supports the load applied vertically by using a curved (arch) structure that curves upward like a bow.
It is the first time in the world to build an arch bridge that uses CFRP for all cables.
Carbon fiber “TENAX”: (CFRP)
The Stadtbahn Bridge over the A8 motorway near Stuttgart is a 127 meter long arch bridge for railways. ,
By using a CFRP cable with a high weight-to-weight ratio, we have made it possible to traverse an 8-lane highway without pillars.
The carbon fiber “Tenax” of our company is used for 72 CFRP cables of this arch bridge.
Compared to steel cables,
The cross-sectional area is 1/4 and has the same strength,
Achieved cost reduction.
“Tenax”: Benefits
Also, due to the significant weight reduction, it is possible to install cables without using a crane.
CO2 emissions are 1/3 and energy consumption is 1/2 compared to when using steel cables.
