Starlink: Specific major problems found:

-What is the problem that you found out by actually using it? –

-“Starlink” provided by SpaceX-

U.S. engineer
Jeff Gearing

After actually using the service, I have listed several specific problems of “Starlink”.

First problem:

The first problem is the slow communication speed of Starlink.

Starlink
Public beta test

Apply for the Starlink public beta test and

February 2021 Started using Starlink.

But Starlink is slow.

Cousin’s internet environment:

Even in my cousin’s internet environment, Starlink’s communication performance is poor,

The communication speed is only a few kbps.

I applied for Starlink in March 2021, but it was a big loss.

Second problem:

The second issue is the hardware.

At the start, Starlink used a circular antenna with a diameter of 23 inches (58 cm).

After that, the antenna was changed to a 19 inch (48 cm) x 12 inch (30 cm) rectangle.

New router included in the kit:

In the new model, the Ethernet port has been removed from the router included in the kit.

The new router can only connect to Wi-Fi.

If you want a wired connection, you’ll need to buy a dongle for $ 20.

Third problem:

The third issue is power consumption.

When using a circular antenna:

Antenna power consumption per day ranges from 80W to 90W and reaches 140W on cold days.

For the new rectangular antenna:
It is suppressed to 50W in normal times, but it rises to 100W or more in harsh environments.

I took down Starlink (but I haven’t cancelled)

Jeff Geerling

Today’s video is about Starlink

—I’ve had an active subscription since last February, and as it’s been a year, I figured I should post an update.

when I had a new roof put on late last summer, I took down ‘Dishy McFlatface’, but I haven’t put the dish back up.

I have been holding out hope I could transfer my hardware to my cousin, who lives on a farm 70 miles away, and only gets 300 Kbps upload on her DSL,

but so far that seems to be a pipe dream.

In the video below,
I outline four problems that have tempered my optimism when it comes to SpaceX’s Starlink Internet service:

No, not really.
I mean, my intention with Starlink was to test it and see if it’d be adequate to replace my weak cable Internet access.

If it didn’t work out, I’d pass along the hardware to my cousin, who lives out on a farm with even worse Internet, with upload speeds measured in the kilobits per second.

That’s the first problem that soured my outlook on Starlink.

But there are four problems I wanna highlight:

Starlink’s preorders and coverage
Flaws with the new Starlink router
Power consumption
Issues with the Starlink satellite constellation itself
