Import Japanese waste PET bottles:
Last year’s import volume of waste PET bottles made from recycled fibers was 101,900 tons.
The amount from Japan was 55,800 tons, more than half.
About 40% of this year’s imports (58,200 tons) are from Japan (22,900 tons).
Korean government bans imports:
The government wants to prevent the surge in waste plastic imports from overseas.
In June of this year, “four main waste plastic items such as waste PET bottles” were designated as import bans.
