NEDO and Sharp:

On July 6, we made a solar panel for EV using the world’s highest level of high efficiency solar cells.

NEDO: Photovoltaic System Committee

If a solar cell panel with a conversion efficiency of 30% or more is used, 1kW of generated power can be realized even in a limited installation area such as an automobile.

We calculated that it is possible to reduce the number of times of charging to zero depending on the usage pattern of users.

NEDO:

Since July 2019, it is being tested on public roads using plug-in hybrid vehicles equipped with Toyota’s Sharp solar panel.

Together with this data, we will make use of it in international research activities.

World’s highest level of high-efficiency solar cell: Produces solar panel for EV

NEDO and Sharp:

We have developed the world’s highest level of high efficiency solar cell module (conversion efficiency 31.17%) in NEDO business.

Utilizing these solar cells, we have made solar cell panels for EVs.

Solar panel for EV:

Achieve rated power output of over 1kW
Depending on usage patterns such as mileage and running time,
Estimated that the number of times of charging from an external power source can be reduced to zero
In the future, we plan to evaluate the cruising range and the number of recharges.

We aim to create a new solar cell market and solve energy and environmental problems.

NEDO: “Solar Power Development Strategy”

NEDO formulated the “Solar Power Development Strategy” in September 2014.

As part of this, Sharp has developed the world’s highest level *5 high efficiency solar cell module *6 (conversion effect 31.17% *7) using “III-V compound 3-junction solar cell technology”.

Sharp: Cooperating with Nissan Motor

Cooperation with Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. to verify the possibility of installing solar cells in EVs.

We have manufactured solar cell panels for EVs by utilizing “III-V compound high efficiency solar cell module (conversion efficiency 31.17%) cells”.

This cell is

About 0.03 mm thin film,
Can be mounted efficiently along the curved shape of the vehicle body,
Achieved approximately 1,150 W*8 rated power output exceeding 1 kW (table)

Installed in the Nissan EV “e-NV200”: (Fig. 2)

This panel is installed in Nissan’s EV “e-NV200” as a demonstration EV.
