KOREAN CLONED STEM CELL INCIDENT OF 2005

In May 2005, Professor Hwang Woo-suk of Seoul National University in South Korea

“We succeeded in extracting ES cells from human cloned embryos using patient’s body cells,” he announced in a paper.

It attracted a great deal of attention as a Nobel Prize-class research.

However, there was a suspicion of data fabrication soon.

In January 2006, the Seoul National University Investigation Committee determined that the results of Professor Huang and others were forged.

Professor Huang resigned as a professor at Seoul National University.

The paper published in “Science” was also withdrawn.

In addition, many eggs are required to produce cloned embryos.
Money is provided to the egg donor,
Egg donation was found by a female collaborator,
