NTT: Optical signal/cyclic mode group replacement system: Successful trans-Pacific/long-distance transmission

NTT:

This time, NTT has newly researched and developed a transmission technology (cyclic mode group permutation) that “allows significant long-distance transmission of mode multiplexed optical signals.”

Transmission technology: optical signal / cyclic mode group replacement

By applying this technology, it is possible to realize a “large-capacity, long-distance optical communication system with the existing / fiber transmission capacity expanded up to six times.”

In addition, by flexibly controlling the multiplicity, we demonstrated that it is possible to transmit over 9000 km of trans-Pacific-class long-distance transmission.

future plan:

In the future, we will study the application of this technology and cooperate with related technical fields.

We will contribute to NTT’s “Realization of a large-capacity optical transmission infrastructure that supports the IOWN concept * 1”.

This result was adopted as the top score paper (average score in the transmission section) of the international conference (OFC2020).

Announced on March 12 (local time) at the San Diego International Conference in California, USA (OFC2020).
