JAXA: Announcement of Mars / Spacecraft Plan: Launched in 2024

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA):

On February 21, an overview of the MMX exploration program for landing on the Martian satellite Phobos was announced.

Following the Hayabusa2 asteroid explorer, it will be a “sample return” plan to bring materials from space back to Earth.

It is the first time in the world that a full-scale exploration of Mars satellites or a spacecraft goes back and forth between Earth and Mars.

Launched in September 2024, aiming for Earth return in 2029.
