Signed a MoU to jointly verify the technology and economic efficiency of the application of ammonia co-firing.
Applies to existing coal-fired boilers:
“Technical study on the premise of 20% ammonia co-firing” will be conducted.
In the future, we will expand the mixed firing rate to exclusive firing.
Ammonia co-firing in India:
As a result of discussions between the three companies, we will further accelerate “ammonia co-firing in India”.
Ammonia co-firing of IHI:
We are also looking to “expand to coal-fired power plants and other coal-fired power plants in India.”

Japan to help India shift from coal to ammonia
Japanese engineers
are overseeing a project they say could help India slash its reliance on coal-based power.They’re planning to teach
their counterparts in the private energy sector how to use eco-friendly ammonia instead.Officials from Japanese machinery maker IHI and another firm
will help India’s Adani Power to incorporate the technology at one of its thermal plants.
They’ll get financial support
for the initiative from the Japanese government.India currently
takes roughly three-quarters of its electricity from carbon-intensive coal.By contrast,
Ammonia doesn’t emit any greenhouse gases when burned.The aim of the project is to reduce India’s carbon emissions from power generation by 20 percent from 2024,
and eventually to make a complete shift to ammonia-based power.
