Denso: Reusing factory CO2 as an energy source: Toyota Central R & D Labs.

-Denso’s demonstration experiment-

Denso:

It recovers carbon dioxide (CO2) from the factory and reuses it as an energy source.

Denso (Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture), a major automobile parts company, is trying to establish such a technology.

It is likely to be the key technology for achieving decarbonization.

“CO2 circulation plant”:

The “CO2 circulation plant” was completed at Anjo Seisakusho (Anjo City, the same prefecture) in July 2020.

Collaboratively developed by Denso and Toyota Central R & D Labs.

This plant

Recovers CO2 emitted from gas appliances,
This CO2 is synthesized with hydrogen,
Make methane and use it as fuel.
Plant size:

8 meters long, 12 meters wide and 4 meters high.

Miniaturization is also required so that it can be easily installed in the factory.

“Artificial photosynthesis”:

Make organic matter from CO2 with sunlight.

We have also started a technology to effectively utilize “artificial photosynthesis” CO2.

DENSO’s aim:

It is used in industries with relatively low emissions, such as automobile parts.

Efficient recovery is difficult, and effective technology has not been established.
