Mitsubishi Heavy Industries:
Osaka Gas USA:
On April 9, it invested in Starfire Energy (Headquarters: Denver, Colorado).
Starfire:
Produces green ammonia using low-pressure, energy-saving catalyst technology.
We are developing a decentralized solution.
This investment:
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Osaka Gas USA will jointly invest.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has invested in a US company that manufactures clean hydrogen and clean fuel.
Investing in Starfire:
Chevron Technology Ventures, a subsidiary of Chevron,
UK Investment Fund AP Ventures,
The above two companies have also invested in Starfire.
Starfire Catalytic Technology:
The unique catalyst technology developed by Starfire is
Renewable energy,
Add only air and water,
Can produce green ammonia.
Starfire Storage and Transportation System:
We are also developing a “system that can decompose ammonia into hydrogen and efficiently store and transport hydrogen.”
We will also promote commercial-scale development of “a device that decarbonizes the ammonia production process that normally emits CO2.”
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, USA:
Ryosuke Sakai for new business development:
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries sees green ammonia as an important new energy source for fuel utilization and hydrogen transport.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will develop technology for gas turbines that use hydrogen and ammonia as fuel.
Create demand,
From manufacturing to use
Expand the hydrogen and ammonia value chains.
Green ammonia production equipment:
-Green ammonia production equipment manufactured by Starfire-
This ammonia production device is easy to assemble at the site.
Meet areas where carbon-free fuel is needed.
Gas turbines for electric power, large ships,
Industrial heat treatment such as steel and cement,
For fuel cell vehicles,
Carbon-free fuel can be supplied stably at low cost.

Starfire Energy announces closing of major funding round to produce carbon free ammonia and hydrogen solutions
Denver, Colorado –
April 8, 2021 –
Starfire Energy, a developer of modular chemical plants
for the production of carbon-free ammonia and carbon-free hydrogen,
today announced the close of a major funding round.
The investment round was led by
AP Ventures,
a significant investor in breakthrough hydrogen technologies,
and included New Energy Technologies,
Chevron Technology Ventures,
Osaka Gas USA,
and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Proceeds
will be used to advance the development of commercial scale applications to decarbonize ammonia production and unlock its potential as a zero-carbon energy carrier.
Ammonia
is a promising energy carrier with an energy density comparable to fossil fuels
and significantly higher than Li-ion batteries, compressed, or liquid hydrogen.
It can be inexpensively and easily stored and transported,
Starfire Energy leverages a patented catalysis technology
that allows for the synthesis and cracking of carbon-free ammonia and hydrogen-leveraging renewable energy sources.
Starfire Energy’s ‘Rapid Ramp NH3’ ammonia synthesis technology
produces zero carbon ammonia using only renewable energy, air, and water as inputs.
The modular solution
is sized to connect directly with renewable energy production, providing a scalable, distributed source of zero carbon ammonia.
The company has also developed their Prometheus Carbon-free Fire,
a system to crack ammonia back into hydrogen providing an efficient means of green hydrogen storage and transportation.
MHI views clean ammonia as an important new energy source for fuel use and hydrogen carriers
and we are committed to expanding the hydrogen and ammonia value chain from production to utilization
by developing technologies such as the hydrogen and ammonia gas turbine,
said Ricky Sakai, Vice President of new business development at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America.
