Shizuoka University: To realize space elevator: STARS-EC completed

Shizuoka University:

A space elevator connects the ground and outer space with a cable, and connects it to and from the ground and space.

Shizuoka University is conducting basic experiments toward the realization of a space elevator.

Space Elevator:

Shizuoka University has completed the microsatellite “STARS-EC” used for experiments and showed the actual product.

“STARS-EC”:

A cubic satellite with a side of 10 cm,
Three are connected in series with a cable,
After stretching the cable in outer space
It means that the satellite in the middle, which looks like an elevator, goes back and forth 20 meters.

On the satellite

Equipped with solar panels,
Expected to operate for 2 years,
I’m trying to check the operation with the camera.
This satellite

It will be transported to the ISS next year and will be released and tested in orbit at an altitude of 400 km.

Shizuoka University: First public release of microsatellite STARS-EC

Shizuoka University:

On September 25, the flight model of the microsatellite STARS-EC (in charge, Professor Nomi) was released.

STARS-EC:

Three CubeSats (cube satellites with a side of 10 cm) are lined up in series.

As a microsatellite, in orbit around the earth
Extend the tether from the satellites at both ends,
Build an elevator of about 22m.
Satellite in the middle:

We are planning an elevator lift experiment by moving on the tether.

The space elevator aims to acquire space debris removal technology in this space experiment.
