Toyobo: Utilizing concentrated seawater, new membrane tech: Saline Water Conversion Corporation

Toyobo: Saudi Arabian Seawater Desalination Authority

A memorandum of understanding was signed with the Saudi Sea Water Desalination Authority, and a joint demonstration experiment was started.

We have developed a new membrane technology that efficiently uses concentrated seawater (discharged from seawater desalination plants).

On October 9, Saline Water Conversion Corporation “SWCC” and our consolidated subsidiary (Arabian Japanese Membrane Company, LLC “AJMC”) signed a memorandum of understanding regarding joint demonstration experiments.

Joint demonstration experiment: “BC membrane”

The new membrane technology for treating high-concentration seawater is aimed at practical use.

It is called “Brine Concentration” (“BC membrane”: salt water concentration membrane).

We applied the technology of hollow fiber RO membrane that we have cultivated for many years.

Use of BC membrane: Advantages

Concentrated seawater discharged (production process of seawater desalination plant)

“Diluted seawater”
“Further concentrated seawater”
Can be separated.

“Diluted seawater”: Can be reused at seawater desalination plants to increase water production.
“Highly concentrated seawater”: Efficiently recovers valuable materials through evaporation and crystallization processes.
With the practical application of BC membrane technology, we will support “Efforts to achieve no drainage” in which concentrated seawater is reused.
