Marubeni: Chile desalination project successful bid: JV Transelec, Ministro Hales

Chile State Copper Corporation (CODELCO):

On November 4th, the successful bidder of the desalination plant construction project was announced.

Located in Antofagasta, northern Chile

Radomiro Tomic,

Fresh water will be supplied to the above three mines.

A corporate consortium led by Marubeni made a successful bid.

Desalination plant: Seawater treatment capacity

The initial stage is 840 liters per second, and in the future it can be expanded to 1,956 liters per second.

We aim to start operations in 2022.

Construction of the plant is scheduled to start in the first quarter (January to March) of 2020.

Chile: serious water shortage

Chile has been experiencing severe water shortages over the last 40 years.

Precipitation (January to August 2019) decreased by more than 50% compared to the average of the past (1981 to 2010).

The livestock industry, beekeeping industry, agriculture and fisheries industry were devastated.

An emergency declaration was also announced for 119 Comuna (Note).
