Japan IHI: Order for ‘X-DF’ DualFuel Engine:  NYK Car Carrier (PCC)

Japan IHI: Order for ‘X-DF’ DualFuel Engine:  NYK Car Carrier (PCC)

IHI prime mover: ‘X-DF’

NYK is building an  environmentally-friendly car carrier (PCC) at ShinKurushima Dock.

This car carrier (PCC) will be equipped with IHI’s ‘8X52DF’ DualFuel engine.

IHI prime mover: clears exhaust gas regulations

From 2020, exhaust gas regulations for ships will start.

Prior to this, the “X-DF” DualFuel engine was developed for the first time in Japan.

After 2025: 30% reduction in EEDI standards is required

In the future, marine fuel will need to be switched from conventional oil to clean LNG (zero SOx emissions).

Currently, the introduction of LNG fueled ships is progressing in Korea and China.

EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index):

Ships built after 2025 are required to achieve a 30% reduction in EEDI standards.

For this reason, “development of LNG fueled ships with low CO2 emissions” is underway at each shipyard.

NYK:

We have built an environmentally friendly car carrier (PCC).

The first large LNG fueled ship in Japan.

‘X-DF’ DualFuel engine:

Uses a low-pressure gas injection system, which is highly safe.
In addition, the cost of the LNG fuel supply facility can be kept low.
Clears IMO NOx / Third Tier 3 regulations, regardless of whether inside or outside the Emission Control Area (ECA)
Excellent environmental performance.

X-DF’s share: The world’s large gas engine market

In the world’s large gas engine market, the share of X-DF has reached 90% (based on cumulative orders received in December)

X-DF technology is highly regarded in the world.
