Mitsubishi: LNG fuel ferry order received from MOL: Two vessels delivered in 2023

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding: LNG fuel ferry

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding of the MHI Group has signed a contract with MOL for the construction of two Japan’s first LNG-fueled ferries.

The LNG fuel ferry will be built at Shimonoseki Shipyard and delivered in early 2023.

After that, it will enter service on the Osaka-Beppu route of ‘Ferry Sunflower Co., Ltd.’.

LNG fuel ferry: Specifications

The ship is about 199.9m long, 28.0m wide,
About 17,300 tons of gross tonnage,
With a maximum passenger capacity of 763,
It has a loading capacity of about 136 13m trucks and about 100 passenger cars.

High-performance dual fuel: with engine

The main engine uses LNG (liquefied natural gas) and heavy fuel oil A as fuel for the first time in a domestic ferry.

Equipped with a high performance dual fuel engine
20% reduction in CO2 emissions
SOx (sulfur oxide) emissions are almost zero,
Achieve excellent environmental performance to reduce environmental impact.
