Japan APB: Development of “All Resin LiB”-Not burn! Bending OK!
APB (Minato-ku, Tokyo)
Sanyo Chemical Industries
Even if it cuts with scissors, it does not ignite even if it drills a hole, and bending is also OK!
We have developed a flat plate “All-resin-type lithium-ion battery (LiB) cell”.
In collaboration with Sanyo Kasei, all electrodes, current collectors, separators, etc. were resinified to enhance safety.
Mass production will start in 2021.
Outline of all resin type LiB: (President Horie)
- Series connection only by overlapping: no terminal required, high energy density.
- Simple structure: No need for equipment cost and time-consuming drying process.
- Energy density: 2-3 times compared to existing LiB.
- Productivity: about 15 times higher.
Prototype of single cell:
- A4 size, about 2 mm thick, with an average voltage of 3 to 7 volts.
- It can also be as large as 1 tatami mat.
- The back of existing battery substitute displays such as large storage batteries for power companies,
- Robot case,
- Embedding on the wall, etc.
We are proposing for applications that take advantage of the high degree of freedom in shape.
