China: Investment in Australia halved: 47.5% decrease compared to 2019

On September 14, it announced that China’s direct investment in Australia in 2019 has declined.

It decreased by 47.5% from the previous year to 2,499 million Australian dollars (about 190 billion yen).

ANU has released the China Investment Database.

China’s direct investment in Australia
Reached a record high of A $ 15.8 billion in 2016
It has been decreasing for 3 consecutive years since then.
Breakdown by department:

As a breakdown of direct investment by sector for 6 years,

Real estate (composition ratio 24.1%) is the most common
Mining (composition ratio 21.4%),
It was manufactured (composition ratio 12.6%).
Looking at the number of cases by amount scale,

96 cases (composition ratio 26.6%) of less than 10 million
93 cases (25.8%) with more than A $ 100 million
52 cases (14.4%) of A $ 1,100-2,000

2019 Achievements:

Investment in mining, real estate, commercial real estate, manufacturing and agriculture fell sharply compared to the previous year.

ANU points out that the sharp decline in China’s investment seems to China a negative view of Australia’s investment climate.
