A “high-level direction finding function that identifies the signal direction from the phase difference between radio waves generated during reception and transmission” has been newly added.

Operating temperature range is -40 to 85 ° C.

Currently, GPS or the like is generally used as a method for acquiring accurate position information of a moving body.

Current GPS:

In indoor environments such as warehouses and offices where GPS signals are difficult to reach, it was difficult to obtain correct location information.

With the new product, it becomes possible to grasp the location information of people and objects even in indoor facilities.

TOKYO, May 11, 2020—

TAIYO YUDEN CO., LTD., announced today the launch of wireless communications modules

EYSNCNZWW (9.6×12.9×2.0 mm) and EYSNSNZWW (3.25×8.55×1.00 mm).

Both are compatible with Core Specification version 5.2, which is the latest version ofBluetooth®*1 5.

These products support a direction-finding function that enables users

to grasp location information, and are most suitable for IoT-related devices that are required to be small and thin, such as

  1. wearable devices,
  2. healthcare equipment, 
  3. handheld devices for logistics.

Mass production of the products will commence in May 2020, with a sample price of 3,000 yen per module.*2

Technology Background

IoT-related devices, such as wearable devices, are very small and therefore use a small-capacity battery which necessitates that the device have extremely low power consumption.

Most such devices useBluetooth® technology, which is a wireless communications standard with low power consumption.

The latest Bluetooth® Core Specification version 5.2 not only provides improved transmission speed and expanded communication range, but also supports new features such as a sophisticated direction-finding function, while retaining the low power consumption of previous versions.

We have now successfully commercialized two new Bluetooth® compatible wireless communications modules,

EYSNCNZWW and EYSNSNZWW, which support the direction-finding function.

These products allow the devices to indicate the location information of people and things inindoor facilities such as warehouses and offices, which was previously not possible.
