5G utilization: bird’s-eye view video synthesis technology

We have concluded a cooperation agreement for the practical application of surveillance camera services utilizing overhead view video synthesis technology and 5G.

Utilizing Mitsubishi Electric’s Fairyview® video synthesis technology and DOCOMO’s 5G, we will commercialize a new surveillance camera service.

Demonstration experiments will be started on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at DOCOMO 5G OpenLab® Yotsuya.

Purpose of cooperation:

In recent years, the security industry has been facing a serious labor shortage due to changes in the social environment accompanying a shrinking workforce.

As the demand for large-scale event security increases, the need for efficient surveillance services utilizing AI is increasing.

Mitsubishi Electric and DOCOMO will combine Mitsubishi Electric’s Fairyview with DOCOMO’s 5G (“high-speed / large-capacity”, “low-latency”, “multi-connection”) to achieve real-time overhead video generation.

Full high-definition video data shot by surveillance cameras is sent to the image processing server.

Since the images are synthesized on the server, a bird’s-eye view image can be generated smoothly.

Utilize DOCOMO’s 5G:

Current LTE has difficult issues.

DOCOMO’s 5G:High-definition video data from multiple cameras can be transmitted in real time without compression.

It is possible to realize wireless camera.
The degree of freedom of installation increases, and a fixed communication line is unnecessary.
You can expect a reduction in installation costs.

This work will be introduced at “DOCOMO Open House 2020”, which will be held at Tokyo Big Sight from January 23, 2020 (Thursday).
