KDDI: Satellite communication Certus service for ship launched – Iridium, approved by GMDSS last May

From February 1, 2019, KDDI will begin offering “Certus 350”, a satellite communication service capable of clear voice and comfortable data communication throughout the Earth for shipping companies including the shipping industry.

“Certus 350” is based on the satellite communication service “Iridium Certus” provided by Iridium Communications Inc. (Headquarter: McLean Virginia).

Iridium is approved by GMDSS as a business operator from IMO (International Maritime Organization) in May 2018, “Certus” will be officially applied for GMDSS after 2020.
