JX Metals: Rare metal recovery of in-vehicle LiB: Bench scale equipment

JX Metal:

This time: Rare metal recovery of in-vehicle LiB

JX Metals (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) started operation of rare metal recovery test facility on February 7.

Announced that the “bench-scale equipment (continuous small test equipment)” has been installed and started operation at Hitachi Works (Ibaraki Prefecture).

Collects rare metals contained in in-vehicle lithium-ion batteries.

Conventional: Rare metal recovery of consumer LiB

JX Metals has already conducted a demonstration test of recycling lithium-ion batteries for consumer use at the Tsuruga Plant (Fukui Prefecture), the largest in Japan.

The company has a technology to recover rare metals not only from waste cathode materials but also from waste batteries themselves.

This initiative is a “next step” based on this technology.

Bench scale equipment:

We aim to establish a mass production process that can produce recycled samples and process them at an appropriate cost.

It features a highly flexible design that can be made into various shapes such as liquid, salt and metal.

Cobalt, nickel and lithium can be separated for each metal and recovered in battery grade quality.
