Sumitomo Metal Mining: Recycling from’used LIB’to’high-purity Li compound’:

-Establishment of “horizontal recycling technology for battery materials”-

January 19th,

Sumitomo Metal Mining:

It was jointly developed with Kanto Denka Kogyo.

From used LIB

Recycling lithium compounds with high purity
Technology for horizontal recycling into battery materials,
Announced that it was established for the first time in the world.

Recycling into high-purity Li compound:

Generated in the battery recycling process,

Lithium-containing slag is recycled using the wet refining method of Kanto Denka Kogyo.

Developed “horizontal recycling technology for processing LIB into reusable high-purity Li compound”.

We are planning to install a pilot demonstration facility in 2010.

Recycled high-purity Li compound:

Kanto Denka Kogyo:

Used for LIB electrolyte “lithium hexafluorophosphate” produced by Kanto Denka Kogyo.

Sumitomo Metal Mining:

Used as a raw material for the positive electrode material for LIB produced by Sumitomo Metal Mining.

In the future, we plan to proceed with practical evaluation for use in lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide.

Establishing a new recycling process:

Succeeded in a secondary battery recycling technology demonstration experiment including cobalt recovery in August last year.

World’s First Lithium Recovery:

Established a new recycling process by incorporating the production of soluble slag that can recover lithium.
