The US Ambassador to Japan,
who is known as a railway enthusiast, enjoyed riding a local train in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo on Saturday.
Ambassador Rahm Emanuel was accompanied by Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu.
The two rode the Kominato Tetsudo line, linking Ichihara City and Otaki Town.
The line began service in the Taisho Era in the early 20th century.
Emanuel and Matsuno took in the scenery while they exchanged opinions about the increasingly severe security environment surrounding Japan.
Emanuel later told reporters it was a very memorable ride as Japan’s Cabinet had, the previous day, approved three key defense documents prepared by Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Matsuno.
