Yokohama Rubber Develops World’s First New Technology to Produce Isoprene from Biomass

Yokohama Rubber has developed the world’s first new technology that can efficiently produce isoprene from biomass (biological resources) through collaborative research with RIKEN ZEON.

Isoprene is used as a raw material for synthetic rubber (polyisoprene rubber) used as a raw material for automobile tires and others.

Currently, isoprene is industrially produced as a by-product of naphtha pyrolysis.

By establishing isoprene production technology, we can reduce dependence on petroleum and contribute to carbon dioxide reduction that causes global warming.
