Nissan took a $ 97.7 million settlement in a class action campaign around air bags made by Takata.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Nissan Motor Co. (7201.T) agreed to pay a settlement amount of 97.7 million dollars in a class action related to recall of Takata-made airbag-equipped cars (collecting and repairing free of charge) on August 8 . It was revealed in court documents. Nissan announced in a statement that the settlement is “expanding the encouragement to the owners of recalled vehicles and accelerating the pace of the recall”. The company’s negligence is not admitted. The proposed settlement including compensation for Nissan owners needs to be approved by the court.
In a similar class action lawsuit, Toyota (7203.T), Mazda (7261.T), SUBARU (7270.T), German BMW (BMWG.DE) have already agreed to settle a total of $ 553 million I am waiting for the final approval of the court. Honda (7267. T) and Ford Motor (F. N) have not reached a settlement yet. Reuters
