An international collaborative research group such as RIKEN (RIKEN) Biological Function Science Research Center · Synthetic Biology Research Team etc discovered a gene essential for REM sleep.

Even when REM sleep almost disappears,We succeeded for the first time in making a mouse that can live.

The results of this research are useful for elucidating the pathology of sleep disorders (neurotransmitters, acetylcholine, abnormal onset) and development of therapeutic methods.

This research will be published in the online science magazine “Cell Reports” in the United States (dated August 28: Japan time August 29).
