Microsoft: Save movies to quartz glass: Project Silica proof of concept

Microsoft / Warner Brothers

In 1978, the entire movie “Superman” was successfully stored and read on glass.

Almost the same size as a drink coaster, “Vertical horizontal 75 mm, thickness 2 mm”.

Produced during the first proof-of-concept test at Project Silica by Microsoft Research.

Project Silica:

This is a project to “store data in quartz glass” by utilizing knowledge in the field of ultrafast laser optics and artificial intelligence.

3D nanoscale diffraction gratings (various depths and angles) are produced with a laser.

Furthermore, the data in the glass is encoded and encoded.

Also, “image pattern of light deflected by glass” is played back by AI and data is read again.
